There are different shoes for different activities. The Asics GT II is a kind of shoe that is not for running. It is quite considered as a sneaker which can be worn for walking or doing light errands but not for work out or running or other physical activities.

The difference between running shoes and other shoes like tennis shoes or shoes that are used for basketball is that running shoes do not have lateral support. What this means is that because you are just going forward, all the support are towards the forefoot and the heel. While the tennis shoes and the shoes used for basketball for example have lateral support because you just do not move forward most of the time you move sideways. That is why they have lateral support.
Shoes that are for walking are most of the time have more support at the heel because when you walk you are more of the heel striker than the forefoot. For the running the forefoot is working more than the heel unless you are heavier and are used to be heel striker nonetheless, running shoes have support on both the rear and the forefoot. It is also important to look into a shoe that fits like a glove on the feet. This will keep an individual from having sprains and other pain on the feet while doing activities.
One must also remember that using the same shoes for a long time is not a good idea. The reason for buying a new one is not because it looks worn out but the support is not there anymore. Support is the reason why you have to change shoes. The most time is one year. If you do not run frequently, then one year is ideal. But if you do physical activities every day, it is suggested that you change shoes every six months. The reason for this is because if the needed support is not there then the pain on the foot, arch, knee and back will eventually appear.
