How to keep your suede shoes in excellent condition

Suede shoes are amongst the trendiest and most versatile footwear today. However, all of that does come at a cost- that of their vulnerability to getting scratches, dirt and stains easily. Anyone who owns a pair knows how hard it is to clean these shoes. Here are two simple ways to help you clean your suede footwear and keep them as ‘fresh’ as possible.

Removing scuffmarks and dirt

  1. On you dry shoes, get a special suede brush, and with it, brush gently to remove any dirt that there is.
  2. For removing scuffmarks, you will need to brush them a little vigorously.
  3. In case there are scuffs that are too hard to remove, try using a knife for lifting the nap.
  4. For the more stubborn marks, use an eraser or crepe rubber. There are suede erasers for doing this as well.

Removing water stains

  1. First, wet the entire outside portion of the shoe with a light water coat.
  2. Using a dry cloth or a sponge, soak off any excess water that there is on the suede shoes.
  3. Stick shoetrees and paper in them.
  4. Leave the shoes drying, for at least 10 to 12 hours in a dry and ventilated spot.
  5. Once they are dry, scrub them lightly using a suede brush to get back the original look.

Keeping your suede footwear in great condition just requires a little extra effort-, which, if done right, will give you the results that will be worth it.
